Remembering VHS tapes [Posted Wednesday, May 6, 2026 5/6/26 7:49 am]
Remember when VHS tapes used to start like this?
Did anyone actually ever get in trouble with the FBI for copying their movie?
According to the Internet, no. They never knocked on people's doors, they only went after big bootleggers. This warning was mostly meant as just a deterrent.
Michael Jackson's Spooky Sevens [Posted Monday, April 27, 2026 4/27/26 9:59 am]

Now that I've posted this, am I Off The Wall? Or am I just Bad?
Review: Ringo's Long Long Road [Posted Saturday, April 25, 2026 4/25/26 9:45 am]
Following the critical and commercial success of his 2025 country record Look Up, Ringo Starr teamed up once again with legendary producer and songwriter T Bone Burnett for his new album, Long Long Road.
The tracklist features standout original pieces written primarily by Burnett, alongside co-writes by Ringo himself and longtime collaborator Bruce Sugar.
The lead single "It's Been Too Long" features the beautiful backing vocals of Molly Tuttle and Sarah Jarosz. The album also includes guest appearances from the likes of Sheryl Crow, Billy Strings, and St. Vincent.
A spirited re-recording of "Choose Love", the title track from his 2005 pop-rock album is reimagined here with an Americana heartbeat, as well as a beautiful cover of Carl Perkins' 1959 hit, "I Don't See Me in Your Eyes Anymore".
For Ringo fans old and new, Long Long Road offers reassurance that the road is still wide open and best traveled with good friends.
Getting stuck in Wordle [Posted Thursday, April 23, 2026 4/23/26 7:15 am]
Wordle is a fun game, but don't you just hate it when you make an almost good guess, but end up with too many possible winning words?
This is known in the game as a guessing trap. As you can see, I fell into this trap yesterday.

Oh, wait. There he is.

Parking time-warp [Posted Saturday, April 11, 2026 4/11/26 9:34 am]
This is a real sign I recently spotted attached to a parking meter pole in the city of Santa Monica:
40 hour parking between 9 AM and 6 PM? How many quarters do I put in for that? And except on Sunday? Does that mean I can park there for MORE than 40 hours on Sunday? As long as you don't do it between 3 AM and 5 AM, I suppose.
I wonder how many cars have disappeared into another dimension after being parked here...

Night of the living dead wax [Posted Sunday, March 22, 2026 3/22/26 8:30 am]
There is a company that makes it possible for you to save the memory of a loved one on a vinyl record, inviting you to "live on from beyond the groove".
The name of the company is And Vinyly (a play on the phrase "and finally", I assume). They advertise that for just £3,000, they will press the ashes of a deceased person into a vinyl disc. You pick the music or speaking audio message for the disc.

Or, you can keep the record silent. The ashes are sprinkled on the vinyl just before it's pressed by the record stamper into a translucent disc. So, the pops and crackles you hear on the record are a result of the dear departed's actual ashes. You can actually see the ashes if you hold the record up to the light.
The UK-based company has been offering this service since 2010. Ashes from dead pets can also be used.
And Vinyly creator and music producer Jason Leach says, "It's a bit more interesting than being in a pot on a shelf."
